Riot Jazz Brass Band

“Riot Jazz’s…brass-heavy jazz combo pack a hefty punch” / The Guardian

Riot Jazz : [rahy-ut jaz] A twisted mix of funk, soul, hiphop and aggressive jazz – sculpted round the LIVE 9-piece Riot Jazz Brass Band.

Since our virginal voyage in Manchester 2008, we, Riot Jazz Brass Band, have been the bare-breasted galleon figure of the Riot Jazz armada.

Fronted by the prodigious MC CHUNKY, these LIVE, brass-wielding sentinels of good tunes and times have infected ear-holes, dance floors and festival fields far and wide.

You will know us by the trail of sweaty bodies, like fishes drowning in air, as seen at GLASTONBURY, WOMAD, LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL, THE BIG CHILL, BESTIVAL,  KENDAL CALLING, SOUNDWAVE CROATIA, PARKLIFE and EUROCULTURED: DUBLIN/FINLAND.

Anchored in the same New Orleans swamplands as the Hot 8 Brass Band and Youngblood Brass Band, the Riot Jazz Brass Band navigate a minefield of original peace-lovin’ aggro jazz, hip-hop samples, funked-up favourites and re-interpreted dubstep, drum’n’bass and dancefloor bangers that never fail to send limbs flying!

Get onboard! Riot Jazz makes good time like Big Ben.

  1. Welcome!
I’m looking for a trumpet to exercise. My name is Jakub Nowicki, I live in Poland. I’m starting to learn to play,
but I can not afford to buy the instrument.
I thought that maybe you have some unnecessary item on which I could start playing. I would be very grateful.
    I cordially greet.
    Jakub Nowicki

    1. Dear Jakub!
Many thanks for your message, it’s always great to hear from our fans in Poland! Sorry to hear you’re struggling to get hold of kit – but no instrument is unnecessary! I’m afraid we haven’t got anything we can spare at the moment but I was in a similar situation a few years ago and got to borrow a trombone from a music school – so ask around at music schools and anyone you know who’s got the instrument you want if you can borrow or come play theirs.
Don’t give up, keep on keepin’ on and stay jazzy.
All the best from Riot Jazz HQ.

  2. Saw your gig in Preston yesterday – I thought you were excellent. Good fun and good musicians. A great set. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to your album.

  3. Hello, saw you guys at Glastonbury and loved your set! was wondering if you are going to be performing at any smaller private venues? Would love to come and support you again x

    1. Hi Naomi!

We had a blast at Glastonbury – good to hear you did too!

The Riot Jazz Brass Band will be popping up here, there and everywhere and venues both big and small… The next Riot Jazz event is 27th Sep at the awesome Antwerp Mansion in Manchester. Have a look at the facebook page for updates on when the boys might be rolling into a place near you!
      All the best,

  4. Just wanted to say, I love your album. I’m a tuba/sousa player myself, and the group I’m in is having a blast playing “Sousamaphone.” Y’all rock!

  5. Hiya, I am really glad I have found this info. Nowadays bloggers publish just about gossips and net and this is actually irritating. A good blog with interesting content, this is what I need. Thanks for keeping this web site, I’ll be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Can’t find it.
